Technische Hochschule OWL

Tech. Hochschule OWL

The Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences is a research-intensive university of applied sciences that offers around 60 bachelor's and master's degree programs as well as doctoral programs at three locations. The work in the project is led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Büker. Prof. Dr. Büker brings his almost 20 years of professional experience in the automotive industry to the project. Before accepting the professorship, he was most recently responsible for the pre-development of autonomous driving at Aptiv worldwide. During this time, he and his teams built the first autonomous vehicles for Aptiv in Europe.

At the Institute for Industrial Information Technology - inIT at TH OWL, he is responsible, among other things, for the Nemo.bil project funded by the BMWK, in which a swarm-based mobility approach is being developed, as well as the enableATO project funded by the BMDV to automate rail travel. The focus of TH OWL's work in the AeMSpeedport project is on the work packages concept development, system development, integration, testing and validation.

The work of the TH OWL focuses on the automation of pushback. In AeMSpeedport, assistance functions are being developed as a preliminary stage to the fully automated process. These functions monitor the aircraft's surroundings, detect obstacles and give the operator instructions on the driving maneuver (similar to driver assistance functions in cars that support the driver). The experience gained here and the data obtained will then allow the transition to fully automated pushback in further development.
